I went to the Perry tubes yesterday to try to net some shad and had NO LUCK!!

So I stop by the bait hut in Topeaka on the way home and hung out a little to see what kind of frozen bait they had.

They had about everything including baged shad (nice and pink) and frozen skipjack......:eek:oooh:
I asked if anyone was catching anything on the skipJack on the lakes and he said they were on the rivers but didn't think no one was trying it on the lakes.

So I thought what the H$%$ I have no shad so I bought two skips.

J-Dog and me headed to the lake at 5am this morning and in the 1st hr we had 5 fish in the boat biggest was 7 lbs and all on skipjack:crazy:

We had jarred shad guts, frozen shad and secret-7 out.

In the next 2 hrs we caught 9 more cats between 4-5 lbs...

Ended up 10 cats on skipjack and 4 on frozen shad and guts and one on 7.

Ten out of fourteen on skipjack will make me fill alot better going to the lake the next time if i dont have fresh shad.

We only used on skipjack the whole day.

Tom when I bought some skips. to go fish a Cabelas tourny. I had the same type of luck with it at Tuttle. The only thing is they are pricey when we can't just go and catch them like they do out East.

This may be a stupid question, but what is a Skipjack? Maybe I just know it by another name.

Seems like the fish in Perry aren't shy about new experiences. Skippies are
supposed to be really oily like gizzard shad, so I can see what brought
them in. Good to hear about your success, Tom! Maybe the cats are having
a hard time finding the shad too, y'think?
