The motor runs fine in forward and idles like a top in neutral, but when I put it in reverse it sputters and barely runs. If you baby the throttle open it will smooth out and go. I'm thinking linkage, but I don't know. Any help?

Been having a little problem of my own, as does Bubba:wink:

Take off the hood. put it in forward and watch what your linkage does. now do the same in reverse and see if there's a difference in how it accellorates.

do this several times and really look at what's happening. The motor does not need to be running, just watch how your linkage operates.

I'm no mechanic Brandon but if i can find my manual i'll look and see if the troubleshooting part says anything. I run an older 75 johnson sprint.

I've got the shop manual for the motor, but didn't find that addressed in it. I'll check out the linkage as Bob Paul suggested when I get back and see what I find out. Thanks for the offer!
