Hey Bubba help.. I just bought a 78 Alumaweld 20x54 flat bottom john boat with no motor on it an no spec plate either.. Can I put a 100 hp 2 stroke on it or would that be too much motor.. The transom is factory reinforced and looks strong enough.. The kid I bought it off of said it has a junk 85 hp evinrude on it.. Any help would be appreciated..

It would most likely handle that 100 but I wouldn't try anything any heaver. A 100 2 stroke won't weigh much more then that 85. Just keep a good eye out for stress cracks in the corners.

Thanks Buuba.. I'm not worried about speed, just got a good price on the 100 hp.. I get a nose bleed at anything over 30 mph.. hehehe

Yep it's your old boat, the title is still in your name.. The kid didn't do anything with it but park it in his uncles barn.. It's definately a one of a kind and everybody will know its me on the river when I get it running.. Bought a 60 hp evinrude for it today.. The youngest boy is picking it up for me know..
