I have a '77 Evinrude 25HP that one of the two cylinders isn't firing on. The ignition is composed of a stator, power pack and 2 ignition coils. Since only one of the cylinders isn't firing, would it be reasonably safe to assume that one of the ignition coils is the problem? I already looked for an obvious problem like loose/frayed wires and corrosion.

Remove the coil from each cylinder and swap them and if the miss followes the coil then the coil is at fault.

    Thanks, I'll try that.
