i just bought an older 1975 galaxy... it is has a 165 horse mercruiser inboard... im having problems with the propeller not turning.. the motor goes in gear and the prop turns for a while but when you really get on the throttle the engine is revs up but the propeller does not want to spin... when it does this i can smell something burning like burnt rubber.... i have pictures of the boat and a picture of where the smoke is coming from but i really dont know anything about the drives on a boat like this so if anybody could help me i would appreciate it

sounds like a spun prop hub rubber inside the prop is probably slipping, they can be repaired

Yep, take your prop off and take it to a repair shop. They will replace the rubber core. Used to cost about 35.00, but that was many years ago. Bet the price is about 70.00 now. Still cheaper than a new prop though.
