1974 johnson 85 hp

    will low compression cause it to start hard have to crank it a while to get it started and if i rebuild it should i put everything in it or just a set of rings motors runs good after i get it started comp id 85-85-85-73

    Yep that will make her hard to start. I would go ahead and put new bearings in with the ring job and hone the cylinders good. Be sure to put a complete gasket set in to and rebuild the carbs.

    thanks bubbakat will be a good winter project have to tear her down to see if its standard or oversized just bought 3 months ago i know the heads has 2 different colored gaskets on it so its had something done to it before

    I have the 75 model to that motor my self and run it on a toon I have . Good motors. I also have a few extra parts also so if you need something let me know. I have the orignal shop manuel on those motors so specs will be close at hand just holler.
