    Hi guys,
I bought a 1966 Johnson 20hp short shaft it runs great only problem is I was told it was stuck in forward gear and just needed to be adjusted.
To make long story short ended up plulling lower unit apart and for whatever reason someone has guted it out only thing left is forward gear.
Any idea what years lower units will interchange don't like starting in gear.
Also would oil mix be 50:1? THANKS

A1966 would have a fuel mix at 50:1 On the lower unit If you will post me a model number I'll see what will inter change with it. Its possible that I may have an extra lower here that will work. Can't promise but I might have.

You might be able to just buy a gear? Maybe?

I can't find the inter change On one that old but from my old memory the 18,20,25 lower gears from 64 thru 67 or 68 should work. The main difference was the number of splines on the drive shaft and the length of the shaft.

I thought I had one off and old 20 but it turned out to be a 64 60 h/p.
Maybe one of the other guys might have something.
