I didn't have school yesterday so we took advantage of my day off to go fishing on Lake Gaston again. We had an awesome day, but just didn't get into the big fish for some reason.

Left for the lake around 3am, but for some reason the bait was near impossible to catch, spent about an hour straight throwing the cast net until finally I hit the jackpot a couple times and caught about 100, five to six inch Shad, and 1 big Gizzard Shad.

Then, we put the boat in and headed for Pea Hill Creek, it was dark for the first hour or two we were out there. First fish was caught by my Dad in 51ft of water and actually ended up being the biggest of the day and was 15 pounds. Then we didn't get anymore hits at that spot so we moved to what has been our best spot so far this year and after waiting about 30 minutes and getting ready to try another spot, a school of decent Blue Cats came thru. My Dad's reel started screaming, and he caught about a 5lb Blue. Right after his fish was in the boat my reel started screaming and I got a 9lb Blue Cat that gave me a really good fight for its size. After that fish the action had died off at that particular spot and the sun had just came up.

We moved out more towards the main lake where I had lost a very big Blue Cat last week. The action was pretty steady for a while out there, none of the fish were very big but there sure was a ton of them coming thru in schools. My dad got a nice Channel Cat, and we both caught many small and decent Blue's all from 2 pounds to 10 pounds. We let the real small ones go and kept the bigger ones to eat. Then the action slowed down again but this time it was because it was starting to get sort of late in the day.

So, we decided to try one more spot on the way in, which was on the main lake near the channel. I think it had just gotten to late by then though and the fish weren't really biting anymore....although we did get a few runs we suspect they were very small Blue Cats that we couldn't hook.

At the end of the day we had 10 nice Blue Cats and 1 nice Channel Cat, not to mention the very small ones that we let go. It was a lot of fun, and hopefully tommorow when we go out we will find the bigger fish.

Here is a picture of all the fish we caught......
