I have a good feeling about this year, the winter has been very mild so far so I am hoping that the catfish, flathead in particular, get active earlier this Spring and move upstream into their Spring time feeding grounds by late April.
In the past when the winters were milder, it usually lead to some spectacular Spring time bites that could be reach from the shore line.
Hello all, I'm new around these parts and going a little stir crazy considering that I'm over trout fishing, no ice is forming on the lakes, and I haven't gotten out to fish at all in weeks.
Anyways, I'm curious if anyone bothers going after cats in the winter time?
The weather is just mediocre out there where it's just warm enough to tempt me into giving it a try. I figure I'd either hit a dam and see what happen or go to the mouth of a creek and see what happens. I'm also wondering if heading a bit further south down to Point Marion would mean a little warmer water though I see that even there the temp for the Mon is down to below 40 F now.

Kevin, channels and blues will bite in the winter. They may be a little harder to locate but they can be caught. Flatheads are very hard to get a bite from in the cold months.
Carp and buffalo are usually pretty active too and they definitely are a lot of fun to catch, especially if you are just looking to get your line tight.
I need to get out. I'm dieing to catch some fish. Still hunting that first musky. I may go to the musky max expo in march to check it out. I would hit a local wild brown trout stream but i want to give the fry some time to get off the redds. Although I do know some spots that from what I've read where they put their redds there shouldn't be any. Plus I caught some pretty nice chubs last year on my spinners there too. I may start fishing for bait there.
Just an FYI, an open invitation of sorts, I do quite a bit of steelhead fishing in Erie the next few months. If anybody ever wants to roll LMK. I'm an easy dude to get along with, Tyrant can vouch for me.
Thanks for the info guys! I haven't made it out just yet but I did get a few stocked trout in the freezer for bait. Still need to get some bluegills built up and then shad when I can get them. Here is hoping the winter is short and we can get out there before we know it.
Think I may take a trip to Ford city or lock 6 this weekend see if I can find some fish. Hopefully muskie but will probably throw musky lures, carp bait and minnows or creek chubs if I can catch some.
Here's a few from the weekend. If anybody objects to non catfish and non 3 rivers content just let me know and I'll take them down. Just trying to keep the thread active in our off-season.
