Going below dam tomorrow morning to try drifting, never done it before! Any advice would be appreciated, i.e. how much weight, got some skip for bait but how big of chunks do you guys use? Thanks in advance. Tight lines!
Vertical drifting with your sinker tickling the bottom you should be good with about 16oz going about 1.2-1.5mph. Back bouncing 5oz was working well today at 0.8-1.2mph. Not sure how big your skips are but 3-4" wide chunks should be good. You can go smaller if you want to conserve on bait.
Well it didn't go to good today, put in at maple island did about 5 drifts and had 1 fish on and lost it! Anchored in few spots and had 2 bites, no takers. Still had a good day with the wife. Going up the illinois tomorrow.
I made 1 drift at the dam and decided to fish further down. I put 10 in the boat between 6am and 3pm. Here is a picture of one of the smaller ones, check out the forked whisker.
I've handled alot of catfish when we were fishing with hoop nets and I've never come across one with a forked wisker like that. Pretty cool.
