Anyone have a bimini on a tiller jon? Thinking of putting one on mine just didnt know how much it interfere with pole holders on the side of boat and tiller steering? Any pics? Appreciate it
I got my one on mine. For some reason I can't load pic. 1860 crestliner dlx. Got a cheap one on eBay. Very happy . I only use it occasionally. I've positioned it so that I can just stand up behind the top but in front of the rear bench seat. All my holders are from the bench back.
Too tall and more sun comes in. Too short and you can't straighten up much.
I have a front deck on my boat and I didn't want a top that extended over part of the front deck as that would make climbing onto the deck but under the Bimini difficult when deploying the anchor.
It's great by myself when I can sit in the middle of the boat. Works good when the sun is closer to straight up.
We took ours off our pontoon & sold it. Kept getting in the way of fishing and besides, we figured if it's too hot to fish w/o it, nothing much will be biting anyway.
In summer, we mostly stop at noon, and also do more night fishing. (my favorite)
We're thinking of adding a couple of large (beach) umbrellas to mount in pvc tubes strapped to the rails in case we want shade. That way, we can take 'em down when we enter a tunnel to another part of the lake, or when we pass under a low bridge.
Going with a big umbrella would be cheaper but i have no idea how to keep it in the boat. Ive tried the smaller ones with my kids and you would be surprised how fast an umbrella can sink:unhappy:. The bimini would really be for the kids but would probably act as a sail on a lake id imagine lol. Im back and forth on it
I was sitting down to order a top and just cant do it! Lol i cant make my mind up. Im thinking those biminis would really get in the way when up and fighting a fish. Maybe ill just wear long sleeves and a buff. Maybe buy more sun wear instead?!? Lol choices are ridiculously tough
I fish out of he back of my boat and all my casting is behind the Bimini . They are easily removable and I only use mine if I go out mid day or expect to stay longer on a morning trip.
For less than $150 bucks it's a nice option to have. ( eBay)
There are drawbacks for sure, but on those days you plan on fishing when the sun is straight up they are nice. And you can always lay it down flat out of the way for the majority of the day.
My bimini is in the way every time I cast. It's also in the way if I'm channel cat fishing trying to set a hook. But let me tell you, It's the best money I've spent on that boat. It makes hot days in the sun tolerable. It keeps me from getting soaked if I get caught out in the rain. It keeps the dew off me when I'm fishing all night. And...my wife loves it! And if Mama's happy, everybody's happy!
It was money well spent for me. You have to work around it, and I've had one really bad bird nest due to the hook hanging up on the top, but on those all day trips, I can just kick back and not get baked by the Oklahoma sun.
Im still considering one, really just for the kids. My boat has the track system too, i think ive figured out a mod. Thatll allow me to mount it into the track of the gunnel and not have to put any more holes in my boat.
I ordered one off of amazon for $100. It only came in royal blue but i handle the color. I dont have any pics of it up but thought these show my rig with it

Gotta go hunting now for that. Umbrella, 40 bucks and piece of conduit works so far. But, if wind comes up fast you gotta drop it. Also if you are moving to another anchor point.
