Weird topic, but I wanted to post a few pictures of what I've been having done since 2015.
My house was falling into a wash, we bought it knowing 3k+ sq ft of the back yard was never filled in and a lot of dirt washed away.
A good friend of mine told me a retaining wall would run $20k and fill dirt would run $15k
The picture of the slab, is my back patio. Which was undermining 2ft when we bought it.
I bartered the entire excavation portion, a company brought out large concrete slab,I broke it to reasonable pieces, they shoved off once I had dirt to mix with everything. The trade off was "free dumping" you could call it. They would run a huge loader down the slope to compact everything
6 months ago, I fell into a endless supply of crushed stone and dirt from a pool repair company. I retired the sledge hammers and Jack hammers. I have 3 or 4 small independent blue collar folk who appreciate the private fill yard and keep it clean.
The picture of the truck, is a week ago.
Essentially, 10ft out 12 deep and 160 ft long.
The area behind the truck, is 20ft out 16ft deep.
I stock piled dirt around the house and paid a guy to grade the immediate area behind the house. When he was done, I cried... I'm not even ashamed to say it.
3 years of swinging hammers, broken thumbs, sore backs, and city code enforcement problems with neighbors complaining about noise or dust is at a very very close end.
I also need to mention;
My total investment into this project?
$250 in grading.
