How many play music while fishing and does anyone believe the music will spook or attract catfish. I have heard of the Barge bite and in Europe they make noise to attract catfish. I hate to wear earphones and would rather be able
to hear boats and barges coming.
I have a big stereo in my boat installed by the previous owner but I never play it other than to test it out and see if it's working.
I do love music but I don't listen to anything in in the boat. I wouldn't mind possibly having a ball game on TV though that would be cool. But I'm not sure how to pull that off.
I thought you guys meant music. If I took my old record player and put it in the back of my truck then played it while bouncing down a washboard gravel road, it would sound better than that. No offense, just fact.
definitions:
Record player - by use of a needle and a vinyl plate, sound is produced. Ancient contraption that used disks that had been scratched that were made to produce pleasant sounds.
Washboard road - a stretch of road which has deteriorated with a series of humps and valleys in close succession.
I always have the music playing while fishing. Sometimes too loud, but the fish don't seem to care. Often that is my timer, 3 songs after the bait is in the water without a bite and time to move. Maybe a little longer in with cold water.
Never, I go fishing to get away from noise. However when fishing an urban environment there is plenty of noise even without music.
I would kindly and respectfully submit that if there are other fisherman in the area turn your music off. But if you are all alone...boogie down!!
Definitely like to have the radio on especially while moving from spot to spot. I do turn it down some when I'm at the spot I want to fsh but not much. Music has never seemed to influence how I catch fish.
I don't listen to music but I don't think it hurts either. I mean, if I can bounce off a brush pile a few times drop a jig 6 inches into the water right off my bow and still have a fish inhale it instantly; I'm pretty sure floating along with baits running 10 to 30 foot below and 50 to 100 foot away from my boat isn't going to hurt much.
I agree. If you're in the right place at the right time it probably doesn't matter. Kinda like the guy who has the best spot on the deer lease and kills the biggest bucks all while smoking cigarettes in his stand.
We usually have a "block rocker" rolling speaker with us. we've had some of our best fishing while blasting tunes way too loud. & we've gotten skunked. I'd guess the ratio is about the same as when we go & don't have tunes playing...
Kind of like the guys that think taking a bucket shore fishing is stupid cause you'll make too much noise, I fish within 20 feet of railroad tracks & catch plenty of fish whether the trains are rolling past or not. I don't think the surface noise phases the fish very much.
When I bought my boat it was 1 year old, BP exec's boat and he had a stereo from hell installed in it and was the first thing to change on my boat, out it went except for the speakers cuz of the holes, packed it up and sent it to one of my kids.
I go to the lake to hear the birds, the water slappin against my hull, fish splashin, nature in general, no way in hell is there any music of that kind on my boat, have music all around me if YOU LISTEN!!
I don't think it hurts at all. Sometimes I listen to music and sometimes I listen to nature. Music can get me pumped and sometimes I just like to be relaxed.
Normally I do not have any tunes going but sometimes things get tough and you have to turn on some Johnny Cash. Not sure why but it tends to get a bite going.
I used to play music all the time. It didn’t seem to have any effect. But these days I really enjoy the peace and quiet. But I still tune into a red bird game!
I don't believe that fish can hear you enough to spook. Your motor would scare them off before music! Plus, if they don't like my taste in music, I don't wanna catch em anyways.
I know this is an old thread but gonna put my 2 cents in. I mainly bowfish but all my life growing up as a kid I would hear people talking about how you have to be super quiet when your catfishing..even had a couple old-timers tell me that you never kept your fingers on the line because the catfish could feel your heartbeat..LMAO! Once I started bowfishing years ago we observed the strangest thing...with a boat full of high powered halogens hanging off and a big generator running, we would still roll up on catfish along the shoreline all night long and never bother them until we were directly on top of them in 3 foot of water and bumping them with the boat. Didn't matter if it is a lake or a river, same effect. My opinion is this: We were taught all these myths of not making noise as a kids because the person who took us fishing wanted peace and quiet.
