Are any of these lake any good just moved to litchfield and drove around the lakes looks pretty inviting . Are there any fish of size at these two if so what kind of tackel or bait should i bring thank you in advance . Ps i no they are not spelled wright ......
Craig, I can not be much help with your question never having fished the lakes you are interested in. But this may help you in some way. Go to "Webapp" on a computer and Navionics will give you the bottom contours of Gillespie lake and some others in your vicinity. Litchfield Lake is not covered. It may be too small for their requirements.
Typically smaller lakes have channel cats and maybe flatheads so I would try cut bait, both shad and bluegill. The same as live bait fir flatheads. Also chicken liver and night crawlers are usually good baits. I have not used a lot of punch (tub) baits but a lot of folks swear by them.
Lake yager can produce some excellent channel cat fishing and can also produce some decent blue fishing. I've caught two blues out of there over twenty pounds. I definitely wouldn't pass up Lou yager!
Hey Craig, Gillespie actually is 2 lakes, new and old. The old lake used to be great but they quit stocking it years ago, don't catch much now. They still stock the new lake, and you can catch them, but average 1-2 pounds. Used to fish Lou Yeager a lot before they upped the daily fee about 10 years ago. Some days we'd catch our limit (used to be 6 per person) and average 2+ pounds. Other times we might only catch a few.
