So I just got a new leftover '16 Trident 15 ft for $850. I was wanting to get a longer, more stable boat than the previous 3 pescadors I owned and after watching some guys take this into the ocean, I thought I'd get it. Especially for that price .
So I received it today, unwrapped it and started seeing how I would set everything up. I ran into a problem. The rear storage is to big for my milk crate. Are there specific crates that go in the back?
Brandon, there are different sized milk rates available but that does not mean they designed the kayak for a specific crate. Just get what fits the best and use some tie downs. You could also go to Wally world and get a swim noodle to cut to size as a spacers to help secure it. Another option would be to cut a thin piece of plywood to fit the open space then attach the crate to the plywood base.
You might check with Justin on Kayak Corner. He has had several kayaks and seems willing to help anyone he can.
Wish I was 50 years younger. I would be all over one of these things.
What I meant was, there's a small storage area for some Plano boxes or lunchbox or whatever, but the compartment isn't sectioned off all the way across. When I put my crate in it, the crate turns at an angle and sits cockeyed.
I ended up putting a 1x4 between the crate and that lip, but it puts a lot of stress on the bungee cords. I measured the width it's around 16 inches, but I can't find any 8x16 crates.
