Hey guys seeing what your opinions are on the best knot to use for attaching the leader line to the swivel. Would a figure 8 with a bite work and just run your line back through the bite?
I tie a coast lock swivel to my main line, and a surgeon's loop to my leader so if the fish swallows or goes deep with the hook I can leave the hook in the fish without having to retie another leader to the swivel. I can just snap another leader on the Coast lock swivel. All my leader are already tied with the surgeon's loop so I just snap one on and I'm good to go. But I'm not whale chaser, just after those smaller ones.
I use a palomar for tying the main line to the swivel, and tying the swivel to the leader. It's no problem to tie, just run your hook or end of the leader thru the loop.
Its the same thing.

I use a Centauri knot for all my mono leader to swivel connections. It's super simple, easy with cold fingers, not much light needed. Big thanks to Patcat for showing me this knot.
Hooks get snell knots... braid is always a Palomar.
Knots like everything else is a personal preference thing. If you don't have confidence in them then they are no good. Use what works for you.
Thanks wade! Just looked up the Centauri knot. That's what I was looking for. I've always snelled my hooks and tied a palomar knot on my swivel, but have always struggled with what know I should use for my leader to swivel! Thanks again!
Snell your hooks then at the end of the leader tie a figure 8 with a bite so there's a loop and then just use snap swivels. The other night a used a regular barrel swivel so I just did a figure 8 follow through. It worked!
You sure can. Just drop your leader end through the palomar loop. On my 3 way rigs I go palomar from main line to swivel, and then snell the hook to the leader. Attached the leader to the swivel with a palomar and then snap on my homemade slinky weight.
