Is Quantum Hot Sauce disappearing?

I will have to say I have not used Quantum Hot Sauce yet but many seem to swear by it for use on Reel bearings.

It is supposed to adhere well to bearing and be especially slick. It also is good in cold as well as in hot weather. And I like the oil bottles with the needle applicator.

I decided that this spring when I do my annual complete reel teardown that I would give this Hot Sauce a try. But, It seems to be very hard to get. I first looked at sporting goods stores in my area. I made a trip to Academy Sports which is the closest to me and that was 45 miles away. Well, they are out. It is listed as on backorder. And you can't even order it online with them. They are totally out. Then I went to Walmart since they usually have everything when shopping online. Nope, on back order. Then I decided to check Cabela's which is 65 miles away on the other side of Indianapolis. Nope, they don't carry it. So, I finally decided I would just have to order it. I checked out Bass Pro. They no longer carry it and that is why Cabela's doesn't have it since Bass Pro bought Cabela's. I did find it at a small hardware store in upper Illinois but they wanted around $9 for the small bottom of oil (that seems to be a normal price) but they also wanted $12 to ship it. Since I will only pay a reasonable amount for shipping, that was out. So, I guess I will just have to use something else.

Anyone else heard anything about Quantum Hot Sauce?

Thanks Showme. I wanted to try it just for the Abu bearings. I have been told 3&1 oil will be a little less friction but will need to be replaced more often than the slightly thicker Hot Sauce. I was just surprised when I started looking to get it that it was so hard to find a seller. Bass Pro and Cabela's not carrying it and Walmart and Academy Sports being backordered on it seemed unusual.

Then, in the back of my head, I keep thinking that since I am always in a boat and really don't need to cast a country mile, going with a slightly thicker oil on the bearings and maybe even a grease on the worm gear instead of an oil might be better for the reels. But I want to try faster just to see what it does.

Appreciate the input Showme.

I got it on order but also found out why it is hard and may get harder to find. The factory burnt down. If you are close to needing some better find it and get it ordered.

Well Jeff, you might think about it. Everyone I have talked to that knows a lot about maintaining their own reels say it is great for the bearings. It only takes a drop or so per bearing. A bottle with a needle spout goes for $8.?? with $5.?? shipping. That is why I was hoping to get it locally. But once I decide I want to try something, I run around all over to find it

I see your weather is getting better there. We had a little snow earlier but a cold rain washed that away.

Karl, your not hijacking anything. I have looked at Lucas products but have not tried any yet. I would probably go to an already out there Penn product or Abu product right off. 3 & 1 is supposed to be really fast to make for long casts but it needs to be replaced more often, I am guessing because it is so thin.

Wesley, if I were you, I would go to the local Quick Lube and go through their empty plastic bottles of synthetic motor oil. There is always some left. :coffee: Man, what a boost. Going to new oil instead of used and synthetic on top of that. And just think, no cost what so ever. :cool1: And, if you luck out by finding a few drops of transmission fluid or power steering fluid you might be casting completely across the river you fish. Be careful, you also might get penalized for fishing out of state.:bruised:

Thanks Tom good to hear from you.
I've done exactly what you described more than a few times. Set out for the simplest thing and returned hours later.....I've even looked at the store's website and seen "yep, they have it". So I get there and can't find it. Then I see on my phone where it says AVAILABLE ONLINE ONLY. I've also looked up business hours on my phone, yep they're open. Make the drive over there....phone was wrong! They ain't open right now!!!
So now Im a little smarter (not really) and order online but then my email gets spammed into oblivion.
I probably should try some good lube I've seen on YouTube where folks are slapping reels around and they make em spin forever I wouldn't slap any of my reels around like that though..
I actually looked at some metoil oust oil because I need something that has the needle for the little zerk fittings on my old Penn reels.

I'm bumping this because I noticed some of my older reels having problems with gummy stickiness ie the older caged bearings don't want to cast even though you adjust the tension way past what is needed.
So I'm having a new point of view I'm thinking the heavier oils are too residual.
I might buy some of this stuff. What's eight bucks compared to how much money we spend.
