Put the FG knot to the test...

Been practicing this new (to me) knot since yesterday, and can now tie it even with gloves on...

80 pound Sufix 832 braid to 50 pound Big Game mono...

Tied the mono to a round part of my reloading press using the old faithful improved clinch knot... Wrapped the braid around a wooden dowel and pulled.... Slow and steady pull... Nothing broke.

Re-situated myself for more leverage (both hands)... Slow steady pull, the improved clinch knot started popping (slipping), then caught and finally broke... The Sufix 832 nearly cut my wooden dowel in half.

The FG knot is for real!!! It didn't give any at all...

The slack seen in the picture is from the mono stretching, then retracting when it broke... The FG is still holding tight on the bottom though.... The knot was picture perfect before I did the pull test, got even prettier after the first hard pull... The stretch in the mono snapping is what loosened the front of it.

I now trust this knot.

I'm using it to tie a 6 foot mono leader to my braid.... To keep the braid well off the bottom (sharp rocks).
That’s great thinking Ridgerunner665! I’d like to incorporate that setup a lot more this year. Like you said, for rocks, and also around log jams, bridge pillars, and any other structure. Thanks for posting this information!
