What else do you do

It's winter. It's cold. The fish are sleeping. What do you guys do besides fish? Anyone with a cool hobby or another passion besides fishing? I rock climb when it's nice out. Not much of that lately. But I just thought it'd be cool to know what else you guys are up to.

I play golf twice a week weather permitting year around. Like Matt said though, that has not happened lately. I enjoy being out and if I want to stay flexible, I need to keep flexing. I try not to let that get in the way of my fishing. Being retired is really tough but so far I have been able to struggle through.

Bottom line is, if you focus on the things that are important to you and not the things others think you should focus on, you will be a lot happier.

I am a full time catfish guide in the summer. In the winter I am the kid taxi and I research catfish patterns, write articles and sometimes work on books. I also do the leg work for a tournament and help get our catfish league set up and ready for spring.

I try to ice fish a few times per month and I watch tons of hockey, either on TV or going to college games.

Did deer hunt but Dr. said eat fish and chicken so fishing now. Have 2 lawns other than ours to take care of, (I have a commercial mower). There is always something to do, I did our own siding on the house by myself, it was a pain but I'm getting it. My work is far superior than what you get if hiring work. (house is bungalow style with big beams on overhand and flaring around the bottom) There is always something to be done, we have about 40 acres that has the river, streams, pasture and woods. Have my own firing range. I use a 3930 Ford tractor to bush hog and move trees that fall in the roads on the property. Have a flooring job coming up this summer. I do it all, have 2 20 ft cargo containers of tools and equipment.

I am struggling with cabin fever, my routine is very routine right now. Drive to town, coffee shop, gun shop, feed mill, drive home, rest of day looking for something to do, repeat Mon.-Fri., Sat and Sun spend the day with my working wife (I'm retired). I have greased every piece of equipment on the farm, built and given away at least a dozen bird feeders, emptied all my gun safes and wiped down every gun in them, dissembled-cleaned-lubricated six or eight fishing reels and reloaded every piece of empty brass I had. Used to **** hunt, trap, and shed hunt but land leasing made that a real pain. We did have safe ice this winter so I got in about 10 days of ice fishing which helped. I guess one of the main things I do in the off season is long for nicer weather so I can get back on the water (in comfort).

Fish year round, wind permitting (I'm a drifter), gather leaves and compost same for my garden, propagating Fig and Blueberry plants, raise cold weather veggie crops, hang around the USCA a tad and watch a lot of UFO stuff. Also do a lot of cooking and that way, I get to eat what I like to eat, YKWIM. Since I'm getting ready to turn 80, I been working on being a GRUMPY old man, almost have it down pat.
