Deer season is starting up in 2 weeks so most of my time will be occupied doing that but want to give some fishing a try if the cats are still catchable during these "2 seasons" here in Texas. I also have a little one on the way due in March so trying to enjoy as much of the outdoors as I can before he gets here as I know alot of this stuff is gonna come to a stop for awhile. Anyways I recall setting out lines on a cold February day a couple years ago and tore up the big blues. Just looking to get pointed in the right direction on how to fish for blues and channels during these times. Wanting to set out lines again and doing rod and reel fishing out of my kayak. All out on Lake Travis and maybe the upper end pf the lake which is more like a river. Thanks!

Fish deep water close to shallow water. When it's warm and sunny the fish will move into the shallow water. Fish deep water close to structure where bait fish gather. Drift fishing can probably help locate them if your having trouble finding spots. These are just suggestions I have no experience fishing for blues let alone during the winter but this year I'm planning on spending every weekend on the water.

When its winter the blues in the lake seem to get together in a deep hole and stay there almost all the time, they can be caught you just have to locate them. In fact I know guys that can and have caught hundreds of pounds of cats every day in the winter, biggest problem is FRESH BAIT, once that is secured and you know where a winter hole is you are on your way to a great day most of the time.
