Made that 130 mile trip to the Ohio River today and managed to catch my personal best Blue today.

About a year and a half ago, I was by myself, fishing on the Ohio when I noticed a fellow a couple hundred yards upriver trying to get my attention. When I got to his boat, I learned his name was Dave and he had a big Blue lubricating the bottom of his boat and he wanted help getting it weighed and most of all wanted a picture taken.

This was his blue cat. 51 pounds and change if I remember right.

Well today, I was fishing the same area and here come this boat drifting by and it was Dave. We discussed the slow bite and the fish being too small today as we past. Dave said he had gotten more bites upstream a short distance so, after a while, I headed upstream.

After soaking a chunk of skipjack for about 15 minutes, the tip of the TWC Extreme rod suddenly bent down and pointed toward the bottom. I knew pretty quick it was a decent fish because every time I reeled in 10 feet of line he pulled out 20. We sorta played give and take for a while, a good while, but eventually, he decided to join me in the boat.

Now just to show that doing unto others what you would want them to do unto you pays off, guess who was a couple hundred yards down stream of me. It was Dave and me being by my self, I sure needed help getting the blue weighed and a picture taken.

Weighed in at 52 pounds and change and measured 48 inches in length.

Anyway, that is my personal best Blue

And now you know that Kentucky boys make pretty good neighbors. Thanks Dave.

Oh, and of course, Mr Blue is back where he belongs awaiting one of us to bait a hook next year.

Ok, I'm ready to go again.

Now that is what we are all hoping for but seldom get. Congrats. I am hitting the Ohio this coming Thurs-Sunday then sadly closing the camp down and pulling the camper out. Can't believe another summer has flown by. Maybe this late winter, early spring we can get together and fill the Skipjack freezers. Once again nice fish and congrats.

Thanks for all the kudos everyone. JBuck, I will be watching the weather for Tennessee again this winter, looking for the right time. I need to make the trip to Ky Lake Dam and Lake Barkley in the Spring when the temps are better. Anyway, stay in touch.

And don't close up camp too quick, fall is one of the best times for big blues.

I guess it could be a possibility but I doubt it. I would think it should have gained more weight in a year and a half. But that is just a guess. There are times when they gorge themselves and then other times when they may find food harder to locate. We had weighed Dave's blue but did not measure it that I can remember so the weight is all I have to go on.

We are having a couple of days in the 40s with cold nights and I would love to get back down there and look for some more big fish. Good time of year for big fish.

Hi J, Because at the time a cold front had just gone through, I was anchored. Although I prefer to drift, when it get cold I think the cats need a little longer to make a decision so I start doing some anchoring.

Copy that. Were you scanning for fish or just throwing at specific ledge area? I’m gonna try to fish the Ohio a bit more this winter. I’m about tired of running the boat dry and banging off trees in paragon so I figure I’ll head south until the waters get back to normal.
