If there is a boat mechanic out there that could help me by answering some questions about my 1973 Johnson 85 hp motor I would greatly appreciate it. The adjustments on the side have all been moved, the motor has spark on all 4, has 140psi compression on all cylinders but when it starts it idles too fast and acts like it's backfiring but will continue to run just don't sound right. Also I just rebuilt both carbs. Any input please, I will take calls 859-585-4220. Thanks and God Bless.
Sounds like to me something is not right between the carbs and timing. There are tons of videos out there on this issue along with adjustments between the carbs and timing linkage if someone not knowing unhooked the carb linkages one carb could be out of time to the other ie butterfly not seated correctly
Well I got it fixed guys, come to find out I didn't have the float level in the bottom of the carbs. Got them back together, fired her up, adjusted a few things and she is purring like a kitten. Thx for the reply though, God Bless
