I thought it would be relevant to start a thread for late summer flathead tips. I'm hoping to glean some information from this also. For instance I prefer green sunfish over chubs or gills. I'm also a fan of the deeper wood cover vs. rock or rip rap. Do you guys like day or night this time of year? Deep or shallow? Thanks for any contribution
I fish whenever I can get out, day or night. Nighttime I fish shallow flats and creek mouths, if you were a feeding flathead would you rather chase food in 2' or 20' of water. I caught a 35# flathead last Saturday in 2' of water. Daytime to me is about reading how the current flows around structure. I have had my best luck fishing bridges during the day. I'm on new water now though and am looking forward to other opportunities. Sunfish are my favorite bait but later in the year I've had better luck on creek chubs.
I definitely prefer wood cover over rocks later in the summer. Depth seems to be less important at night, but I have noticed fish seem to follow drop offs and contour edges.
That ain't no horse, looks like a JACK-ASS to me.!
