...how light do you go? It's been a very busy year for me, and almost all my fishing has been in a conveniently located pond. It's stocked with grain-fed channels and it got boring after a while with typical catfish gear, so I reverted to light spinning gear and 4lb test. The biggest cats in there are 4 or 5 pounds. It's a challenge again!
That is always fun. Nothing like a 15 or 16 pound channel on 8 pound line. Up here we do it when the water is cold so they don't tear the reels up to bad.
I like light lining. I have all these species specific rigs but when I head out the door, most of the time it is a light action rod with 6# test and a tackle bag of lures up to about 3/8 ounce. I fish with that an easy 60+% of the time.
If I am going catfishing...I have a set of rods and a tackle bag I take. If I am going carping, I have a set of rods and gear just for that. But most of the time I am not heading out the door with a target species in mind....I am just "goin' fishin"....
