It's time to get ready for Winter and wash those long-handles to remove anything the splatter shields may have missed. Thanks for the last one Mac with a B. Let the Ramblings begin.
Good morning, folks. 61* going up to 70* today. Much nicer than it has been. Unfortunately there is more rain on the way tomorrow, something that extends the saga of the anticipated tree trimming at the Russell hacienda.
Supper tonight will be chunks of venison cooked up with some really tasty onion and paired with scrambled eggs and biscuits. Y'all can stop by ifin you wish.
Gotta play catch up again when I get back home. Some things I just can't keep in stock. But (there ya go, Sir Tuna), that's a good thing.
Y'all thought I forgot my job didn't you? Nope, remembered just in the nick of time. Happy Thirsty Thursday!
Good Morning from Central Texas. 63 and headed for 93. It's gonna be a warm one today and all the way through next Tuesday.
Mac, you're right about hospitals. I've seen it many times... Now there are times where a person needs to go to the hospital, but limit your stay as short as possible. AND patients should always have someone stay with them in the hospital.
oh...i forgot...mike has thawed a ham and brisket for
friday morning...the brisket is marinading...tonya will
run the smoker while mike is at work...i hope she will
tend to it frequently...if not i may offer to take over...
especially since she has the kids...SCATS...
Kind of moist out there this morning. It was foggy early.
Yesterday I went to the ATM and got some money (it only give out $20 bills) because I only had a few $1 in my wallet. Went into McDonald's to get a coffee and decided I wanted a sausage an egg biscuit too. Gave the girl that took my order one if the $20s. One of my friends said something and I turned toward him so I could hear.
When I turned back to the girl that took my order she had a $10 bill in her hand. I said I thought I would be getting more change back than that and she stated that I had given her a $10. I said no I was positive that I gave her a $20. We bantered that back and forth for a few times and she said she would call the manager. I said go ahead and call a manager. Assistant manager got the particulars from both of us and said he would check the video.
Waited for about 5 minutes and he and a lady came back from the back. The lady (I think she was the manager) got my order and the assistant manager reached in the register grabbed a $20. I explained to the lady that I would pay for my order. She said no sir it is on us. I stated again that I was perfectly willing to pay. She looked me in the eye and said "No sir you are OK" and then gave me an OK sign with her hand. I then Thanked her took my food and joined my friends.
I don't know for sure but I don't think the girl that took my order will be working there today. IJS.
Late this morning, Frankie took the Widow Lady back home. She got out of the car and Frankie had the walker ready for her. She traveled maybe twelve feet and stopped and told Frankie she had to sit down because she didn't have any energy. While she was resting, Frankie went into her house and got some night cloths and other stuff fer her and now she's back on the dead end road. This AM I forgot two other major aliments she has, failing kidney function and Diabetes.
Over the past forty years, Frankie has taken care of a spinsters and another widow woman. One, we paid for the cremation and the other one had prepaid her funeral cost.
Some people take in stray dogs and cats, but not the Squaw, what more can I say.
Bless You and your Wife Mac. Special place upstairs for the both of you. I'd like to think I would see you both up there some day but I afraid I'll be traveling the other way, Proud to know you though J.D.
Mac, you will both be blessed for helping. Thanks for looking out for her. Been there with my foster son, if we hadn't done it he would have been 16 and homeless.
Because of it we are blessed another family and another grandson. Who by the way is excited to have Poppa attend Veterans Day with him.
On another note I told #2 this weekend that I would try to treat her nice since she would be choosing my nursing home one day. She didn't think it was amusing.
I tried to post that the hunt was over, but it didnt post. No elk were harmed during my hunt at least by me. It was still great wandering around up at 10,500 feet. I had never been that high and walking. I walked over 9 miles on Monday. Looking for my breath the whole time. Did see a few cows, no bulls which is what I had a tag for.
#2 kept getting worried when she beat me back to the truck that I was lying on the mountain top hurt. Twice she was crying that I was lost.
Enjoyed our time with her and her fiance, who is at least 3/4 mountain goat. We saw a couple of cows and he took off at a pace that there was no way for me to keep up. So the hunting trip was on the bucket list, it has been replaced with killing an elk at this point.
On to deer season, muzzleloader season is open and I am allowed a buck and a doe. I think the critters are in peril the next 3 days.
Going to teach a fellow from PA how I drift for catfish this AM (8 to 12) and hopefully, we will catch some catfish. WG's are showing that it will be calm to lite wind, we shall see >>> https://weather.com/weather/hourbyhour/l/28037:4:US
Meanwhile, back on the dead end road along the shores of Lake Norman, our water level is down a tad, but nothing to get excited about. Used the water hose yesterday to give some nourishment to my veggies by way of the Miracle Gro system. Veggies really look healthy, Garlic bulbs have all, but a few, have put out shoot thru the leaves covering them and the Leeks are just waiting for someone to pluck them out of the garden. Still have some OKRA pods to harvest as soon as they dry out a tad.
I appreciate the kind words y'all have heaped on the Squaw and myself, but it's really the Squaw that deserves all the praise, I just here, about as useful as tits on a Boar hog.
Between now and eight bells, I have to decide the best part of the lake to fish, so my client will not be disappointed.

And just as ugly - but Frankie likes you. Wanna trade?
I tried wife swapping once and thought it was a good deal but after two days the guy wanted his tractor back. Bummer. I liked that tractor.
Went down and looked at the mighty Castor river yesterday afternoon with the intention of maybe doing a little bank fishing. There are so many leaves floating by that casting a line out wouldn't even make a splash - more of a thud.
People ask me if I fish for flathead catfish in the dead of winter, no, here's why. Sleeping Beauties - YouTube
Now I have caught the heck out of them in Feb, but it was ice going out.
All were caught on rod with a big glob of night crawlers. I don't know if you could get them on set lines with all the ice and trash and high water.
Good rainy Friday morning. When I started this post it was 66*. Now 65* going to (or maybe coming from?) 69*. Who knows? We've had some spectacular lightning so far and some toad stranglers.
Thinking about making some flounder for supper. Maybe. Maybe not. Need more coffee before attempting to make executive decisions.
Mr. Mac, you and Miss Frankie are some of da gooduns. Give her a hug from me. Maybe you'll get lucky. LOL!
Mac is just drifting Keef is going to go after round heads since he aint going after flat heads Mss deb is just floundering around trying to figure out what to do for dinner fu is talking about more veggie rows but the real question is will he still use yeller water to water them with
Y'all pull up a chair when you get some spare time. Gonna tell y'all a little story.
This past evening, like around 7:15 when I pulled the covers up under my chin I had something on my mind dat was bothering me big time, plus my left arm was not feeling right and I couldn't get it in a comfortable place. It was one of those what if moments. Strange thing was, it involved my new client this morning and the fishing trip. Sumthing told me I needed to fish in a safe place as it related my client, which I had never met. In summary I figured I needed to fish in a place that I could give the first responders a location without giving them a house number, if I would need there assistance. Then out of the blue I would fish next to an island which has a bridge to it and I knew the people that had the last house on the right before you went across the bridge to the island. I figured I could tie up to their dock and give the fine 911 folks an easy location to find. Call it ESP or Clairvoyance or whatever. My arm quit hurting me after I figured I had a game plan !! Around 9:40 AM my client leaned over the side of the LUND and got some water to splash his face with, I asked him if he was alright and he said no. He had cold sweats and his slightly red face and turned ash looking and he said he was getting sick on his stomach. I then asked him all the questions relating to a heart attack or stroke and he said no to them, he said most likely he got hot. I didn't want to tell him it was in the low 60's at that moment, then I asked him what he ate for breakfast and he said a sausage biscuits. After about twenty some minutes and he wasn't improving I asked him if he minded if I called the ESM folks and he said not at this moments and best we head back to the pick up point. Riding back I open the walk thru window so he could get some fresh air on the way back. After I got thar, he wanted to git in his truck and head back to his hotel room and rest. Told him to stand on the dock and see if he would feel better. Kept him another fifteen minutes on the dock talking to him under he got his color back. After a spell, I told him I could release him to leave, but he had to call me on my cell when he got back to his hotel room, which he did an hour and half later. Said he felt OK and thanked me for the way I handle the situations.
I did everything the charter ins. company tells you to do in cases like this. It's better to be safe than sorry, ISYN
PS, he wasn't sea sick since he lives on a bay in VA and the water was sorta flat..
