I have tried a few different brands of punch bait, dip bait and other "pre-packaged" baits. I wanted so bad for them to work because it is so handy to have a jar of gunk ready to head out the door. It hasn't worked out that way.

I still do better with a a container of fresh chicken liver from the grocery store or a couple dozen nightcrawlers. I still have some "jar" baits, but my confidence level is about zero in them. I would rather get a dozen nightcrawlers, take a day to catch bluegills and panfish, toss them in the freezer and use them as cut bait another day. I have caught way more fish that way than with prepared, jar baits.

Maybe it's just the way I am holding my mouth, I don't know...but I do know my success rate.

Same here, if I want a quick good bait, chicken or beef liver is tough to beat for decent channel cat action.

Though, a handful of garden worms or red worms will get more then enough bluegill to chunk for some serious channel cat action.

I gave up on punch bait too. The only kind I tried was CJs and I had two different flavours. It does work for a whole lot of people though. I just got fed up with checking my line and nothing on it after five minutes without a bite. I used treble hooks and was not casting. I was tight lining straight down or under a cork. One day I used the contents of both containers as chum.
I mostly catch legal sized dinks to eat and chicken liver has outfished shrimp and cut many times and it's under two bucks. I don't mess with panty hose or anything like that. Just put some on a cutting board and slice it into the pieces you need.
