just tried the team catfish double actions in 4,5,and 8. So far they are at 100% every cat that shook the bell made it to the bank. All fish were in the 5-15# range nothing huge but were all fun to catch!

I have had good luck with Team Catfish hooks but have also had very good luck with Gamakatsu Hooks. The 8/0s I get always seem to be very sharp, can be purchased at a great price (eBay) and I have learned to spell (Gamakatsu).

GAMAKATSU OCTOPUS CIRCLE HOOKS (25) VALUE PACK 8/0 208418-25 *** $12.99

Either hook will do the job.

I have a few different brands of hooks right now I'm trying out to see which I like best. Bbk is right they are a bit expensive and no real way to buy them in bulk. But half the fun is trying out the different brands also.

I have tried a ton of different brand hooks including the team catfish 8/0 circle hooks. I run super heavy braid and have actually snapped the hook in half on hang ups. I can't say I have an absolute favorite hook but the top three has to be Gamakatsu, Owner and Mustad but not in a particular order. I have recently purchased cat gear from Bottom Dweller Tackle online. Selection, prices and service was great.

I agree with Wade that having confidence in your gear is important and that there are several good hook manufacturers out there. I don't think the exact shape of the hook is a deal breaker when it comes to hooking up and catching fish.

What I do think is the ultimate point is the ultimate point. A dull point on your hook will do nothing to help you and will cost you fish. Some small and some may have been your personal best.

Always test your hooks for sharpness. A great hook that is dull is not a great hook.

tight lines.

ive tried a lot of circle hooks when I first started catfishing.i use team catfish double action circles in 3/0 and 5/0 with great catch rates.when the catfish load the rod up and hook themselves they don't come off..my other fav is gama offset circles.only 2 brands in my tackle box these days.but I have team catfish circles on 95% of the time.

I check and recommend check every hook that comes out of the pack for sharpness. You will be surprised as to how many dull hooks can be found right out the pack. I believe in circle hooks for river fishing. I run standard saltwater hooks on the lake when fishing floats. I carry a wide variety of brands of hooks in my overstocked tackle bag. Some manufactures size their hooks differently and only go up to certain sizes. A lot of great hook manufactures out there now. I buy em' and try em'. As I mentioned in an earlier post I run braid heavy enough to test most hooks. The last thing I want is to have the cat of a lifetime on the line and a weak link prevent the landing. I test every brand of hooks I buy. I tie one on and hook it on a post and see how it holds up. The team catfish circle hooks I tried didn't bend or straighten, it snapped in half. It was far weaker than 80# braid and broke rather easily on several tries. I plan to add a crane scale to my testing strategy and record my data.

I have caught some good fish on the TC 8/0 hooks, however, I have to sharpen every one I use. They are fairly sharp, but not sharp enough out of the pack, which most hooks aren't. They hook up well, but for the big cats, I like the eagle claw 2022. When I hook a big bait, I have confidence that the big gap will do the job. I also have to sharpen them as well.
Really, the only hook I have ever purchased that I didn't have to sharpen were gamakatsu. I like them fine for some situations, but in the Ms river I want something with a bigger gap and a little heavier wire.

I have learned to buy saltwater big game rated circle hooks and eliminate the size and strength concerns. I fish for big blues on the lower James river. Its not uncommon to get fish over the 50# mark making strong hooks a must. I have had great luck with the Gamakatsu circle hooks. I also use Owner hooks that are heavier and extremely sharp from the package. Mustad makes some massive heavy duty circle hooks for saltwater and are available in bulk packages, however they as a rule of thumb the dullest hooks I buy and must be fine tuned before using. I recently picked up some Charlie Brown circle hooks on Bottom Dwellers that I am interested to try. They also have a nice extra wide gap for big bait.

I know that daiichi makes the TC hooks, but the D85z is not the same hook as the TC 8/0 double action. I have fished with the D85z for several years now for certain situations. Its a good hook for live bait. It's called "circle wide". Not shaped at all like the TC hooks. It has a bigger gap, and is shorter from the point to the bottom or bend of the hook than the TC Double action.
I kinda want to think that the chunk lite may be the same as the TC. Not sure though.
