I just sold my SeaArk V-Cat 200 SC with a 150 Suzuki. I will be jumping back into the same boat. The new V-Cat is capable of holding a 175. Is the 175 worth the extra money? I was also thinking about a jack plate and hydraulic steering for the new one, (old boat didn't have either one) but once again not for sure if I need them. I am open to any thoughts or suggestions. I am relocating to TX from SC and will look for one when I get to TX.

I'm very disappointed in the performance of my 140hp. I would recommend going with max rated hpgo on any boat. The hydraulic steering is a must, I wouldn't own a boat with out it. If you get a jack plate make sure you get the 6". I put a 4" on mine and when the motor is tilted up fully the steering cylinder comes in contact with the transom. Also, 6" is the max Seaark recommends, any larger and you could void your warranty.

My dad's vcat has a 150 mercury pro xs with hydraulic steering and a Jacks 6 inch hydraulic jack plate. I'm not sure if the jack plate makes a huge difference in speed and performance because we installed it while mounting the motor to the boat but it helps when moving around in shallow water for sure. We have seen it at 52 mph on smooth water at the lake fully loaded but mostly in the upper forties on the river if he's pushing it that hard. The jack plate won't pull the skeg up high enough to avoid rocks if your being careless though. He has already broke a piece of the skeg off.

Thanks for all of the advice. I fished Santee Cooper for the past 7 years with the SeaArk and the lake I will be fishing in TX has about as many stumps. Thought the jack plate might help out in the shallow water. It would be used more to help dodge stumps than speed. I have always heard go with the highest HP. If the price is not a big difference, I will go with the 175.
