Just curious as to how many here are using the Omotos that Renegade Tackle sold a while back. Are they holding up for you guys? Had any problems with them? I have maybe 6 or 7 of them and so far so good. One started making a funny noise today when I reel in. Still works great but somethings amiss. I may tear it apart tomorrow and see whats up. They are the Chief 7000 CSM model. Thanks for any replies.

The reel functions like it's sposta but when reeling in, there was a rubbing/scraping sound. Not loud but audible. I loosened the drag quite a bit, cast it out, reeled back in after tightening the drag some and the sound has gone away. Go figure. It may come back in the future, in which case I WILL tear it down to see what the issue is. I like these Omotos and this is the first time I've had any kind of issue.

The cause of a rubbing/scraping sound when turning the handle would most likely be the outer edge of the spool rubbing/scraping on the frame as it turns. I am not a reel repairman but this is just what I would think the problem would be.

You may be right. I'll adjust the right and left spool tension screws to move the spool slightly to the right as the sound seemed to come from the left side. Used the reel all day today and didn't hear a darn thing but, I'll adjust it anyway. Beats the heck out of tearing the thing down and risk losing a pin, screw, clip, spring, washer... you know the story.

Bugsy, look and see if your reel has an o-ring in the threads under the cap. If it does not have the o-ring and you loosen it, it can come unscrewed and fall off. I other words, a cap with no o-ring under it is meant to be snugged down. I guess some reels are meant to be adjusted from both sides and others are meant to be adjusted only from the side that has an o-ring in the threads.

good luck.
