I have a new 16' lowe semi v alumin with 20hp motor was thinking of hitting the river to try for some cats someone said up near liver pool would be a good spot with less rocks to worry bout, also my brother law loves to cat fish but never really got into channels he just fishes for bullheads in small streams so i want to get him out for some bigger ones but hes very unsure about eating anything from the river?

Hey everyone! I'm new to the Harrisburg area, and thought I'd introduce myself. I'm interested in learning more about the Susquehanna and would love some help finding local fishing spots. I've fished a couple of times and had some luck at Ft. Hunter, but I was surprised at how little access there is to the river. When I was a kid in Oklahoma, my pops and I would wade out and fish the riffles with hellgramites when the water is low like the Susquehanna is now. Do people do that here? I'd love to give it a try? I've noticed the river looks perfect for it just below Duncannon. Any advice on where I could best access the river? Also, do people noodle here? Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you!

I have similar questions as Brody.. I live in Mechanicsburg and I'm trying to find places to get my kids out fishing and on some catfish. The problem I have is I have no idea where to try. We went up to the west fairview boat launch Sunday morning for a while and had no luck, it's pretty shallow there, not sure if the cats even bite there. We were going to hit the warm water at bruner island but it is now closed.

Wrightsville is a pretty far drive but I've heard it's good there, can you fish from the shore?

I'm open for any suggestions, the river is so huge, I have no idea where to start, there seems to be limited shore fishing options around Harrisburg.

I know everyone gaurds there spots, but if you could give me some ideas where to look. Thanks.

Its no secret that the catwalk at york haven is a good catfish spot. If you can handle the conditions and the spiders that is.......It is still open.

When you fish the catwalk do you normally go out where the current is strong or fish off to the side where the creek joins? I was just there last weekend and there was no one else around. It was my first time. I tried for carp a little over in the calm water but no luck.

Depends, I usually will fish the inlet for sunfish, if you fish along the retaining wall on the dam side there is a deep channel there where juvenile walleye congregate so watch for them. Right now its cold on the dam face, but the catwalk is very productive, I've seen every species taken on that dam.....bluegill, yellow perch, largemouth, smallmouth, striped bass, walleye, muskie, channels, flatheads, crappies

Typically folks fish in the still when the turbines are off. It can be fun to fish in the current, if you have suitable hardware and rigging. There are a few secrets to fishing there I wont share online, but leave for you to figure out for yourself. :)

I have a lot to learn about the catwalk area. Maybe I can hook up with you, tankenator, to get an idea of how to fish it. I didn't realize they turned the turbines off, when we were there the water flow was violent.

when you say dam face do you mean the deep side? How do you get up there to fish that side? It looks like a good spot to fish and seems like it would stay relatively ice free due to all the flow.

If you're out on the catwalk and hook a catfish how do you get it up and out of the water?
