Hello everyone,
Please drop a quick line so I can get ya added to the attendance list just so we can get a bit of a start on the # of people we can count on being at this event so I can plan on for the amount of catfish to be fried up...
This Year I will also have chicken fingers at the event for the few that may not eat fish....
This is going to be a really nice gathering...We are all looking forward to it...
Sounds like we are going to be having our Gathering/Dinner the same day as the Bass Proshops Big Cat Quest tournament ...
We are having a Drawing at this event for door prizes and some really nice ones I have to say have been donated already...I am also working with the IDNR to come up with Some conservation hand outs and some packages for the kids...Coloring books, posters, maps and etc...
This is going to be a wonderful weekend,I would personally like to invite any of the folks from that Bass Proshops Big Cat Quest tournaments event to come share in the days events with the BOC Rend Lake Gathering Members ...
This is a work in progress and I hope we can have a breakfast meeting in March with members willing to get together and just talk about the days events and make some plans to have it go as smooth as possible...
Thank You for all the help in making this a success
And toss out some dates for March you would like to get together for a Breakfast meeting at Ryans Mt. Vernon

Paul, checked in for the first time in a couple weeks. The Ryan's gathering on MAR. 22nd works for me. The Rend gathering June 21st is also good. Nancy and I can bring fresh organic garden veggies again, may be a little early for tomatoes though, but should have a variety of stuff. Everyone pray for a wet spring, Rend Lake is still way too low.

After the big rains yesterday and last night, the Big Muddy west of Mt Vernon was over its banks. All that water is going into Rend Lake. I never heard how much rain we recieved, but it has almost been a year since we had that much rain. I feel sympathy for all the loved ones of the 50 plus people who perished in this storm system. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the breakfast and gathering.

I had to make a minor change in the Pavilion that was to be used...This Year Pavilion #3 was not Available so I have reserved Pavilion #2...
The only difference with this site...It does not have electric...Please keep in mind for diner arrangements...I will see if some one has a small generator we can use for the day to help with this...
Bummer

Paul, thats a bummer not getting Pavillion #3, pavillion #2 is south of the campground with a little better boat access. I do not have a generator, but I would assume one of the members can come up with one. There is a very nice pavillion at North Sandusky right on the lake, but that area doesn't open for about another month. It's a Federal campground and campsites can be reserved on Reserve America. The picnic-pavillion area is reservable but I don't know if it can be done online, and i'm not sure about electricity.

Not that ya haven't, just might wanna make sure and check on the use of a gen., some of the state parks don't allow them unless it is in certain area's...... usually the primitive camp area. Not sure of your set up on 2....

Might need to see if that area is going to even be open. With the new tax cut, it might be closed. Here is an exerp from the Belleville News Democrat.
"Carlyle Lake isn't alone in feeling the pinch. At Rend Lake, three areas -- the South Marcum Campground, the North Sandusky and North Marcum Day Use area -- will be closed all season."

This is the reason given to me as to why the other pavilion would not be avalible due to over bookings and these three areas being closed...

Hello everyone,
This is going to be a really nice gathering...We are all looking forward to it...
Sounds like we are going to be having our Gathering the same day as the Bass Proshops Big Cat Quest tournament ...We are having a Drawing at this event for door prizes and some really nice ones I have to say have been donated already...I am also working with the IDNR to come up with Some conservation hand outs and some packages for the kids...Coloring books, posters, maps and etc...
This is going to be a wonderful weekend, I would personally like to invite any of the folks from that Bass Proshops Big Cat Quest tournaments event to come share in the days events with the BOC Rend Lake Gathering Members ...
This is a work in progress, we are having a breakfast meeting on
(March 22nd Mt.Vernon, Ryans 9am) all members welcome to come and just talk about the days event Please feel free to join us for breakfast...Look forward to seeing everyone...We will have T-Shirts to view and or purchase, information on the IDNR package they have put together for us for the kids that come or that are in your neighborhood whom you would like to give it to and door prize drawing information...

Paul, unless Wayne Fitzgerrell has changed ther policy you can't reserve there. The only way to get a favorite spot is by chance or go in the middle of the week and pay through your stay, and put something on the site, camper, boat, tent, etc. I already have my reservations made for North Sandusky.

02-22-2008, 12:57 AM
Don,
You are correct so those of you planning on camping get your reservations in soon around the area... North Sandusky is still open and taking reservations or make sure you get down early in the week and park a camper, boat, tent, etc. at Wayne Fitzgerrell...Rates are $15.00 a night for electrical sites and 6.00 a night for primitive camping...The reason for getting reservations made early is because the state is closing three sections for camping around the lake...
Don do you have any details for making reservations at North Sandusky
Phone#,Contacts,etc.
Plus there is going to be the BassProShops Big Cat Quest going on the same weekend...There is also the Hotel,Cabins and Boatel at Rend Lake Resort...If anyone need help locating a place to camp or stay give me a shout and I will do my best to help...
look forward to seeing you and Nancy at the breakfast in March...

But I am very excited to hear she is coming out. I am sure my mom will be itching to be around a little one as well. She just might become another grandma for her if you aren't careful! I mean afterall... it is my child, so it is her right.

Anyone wanting to reserve a camp spot for the Rend Lake Gathering can go to www.reserveamerica.com (http://www.reserveamerica.com), . When you get there ,you need to register with a user name and password. Once you have that, you click on "Illinois". then type in campground name of choise, (North Sandusky, South Sandusky, Gun Creek) there will be other blanks to fill in, such as arrival date, length of stay etc... Just follow the directions, it is not to difficult, there will be a map to show a layout of the campground, and what sites are still available. The prime sites are filling up, but there are still some good sites left. For boaters and fisherman, North Sandusky is my favorite, as it has a good boat dock user free if you are camping there, and you can pull your boat up close to most of the sites, no need to trailer every day. The banks are mud, most boaters bring old carpet or a wood pallet as a dock. For those bank fishing, Channel Cats can be caught off all the points close to your camp site. Also to the right of the boat dock is a deep hole with large Channel Cat and I caught a 13 lb. Blue there 3 years ago. Sandusky Bay is also a good jug fishing area, as well as a family favorite "Party Cove". I'm staying at #106 White Oak, which has about a 1 acre back yard with plenty of shade which could be used as an emergency gathering spot for the Gathering if something goes wrong with the shelter #2 location. I hope this info helps. Maybe more BOC members will consider making this an enjoyable weekend of camping and fishing. If you have questions, feel free to post or PM me, I'll try to answer your questions. My cell # is 618 214 1223 feel free to call.

As I understand it, Sandusky Day Use Area will be closed, but they are taking reservations for the Camping Area. The only camping area closed is South Marcum. I can't imagine them closing North Sandusky camping area and boat dock as they are full-no vacancy almost every weekend.
Travis
I would like to get together with you. I will also be pulling in Thursday afternoon around 4:30 after work. I have not decided yet if I'll work Friday or take a vacation day. If someone is at the lake and wants to fish it's vacation time.

Don,
plan on it being vacation time...We will get with you and fish buddy...I will have my boat and hupp will have his to...There will be plenty of boats for people to get in if they wanna get in a boat...Travis is bringing his also and I am sure Earl will be bringing his,and I am sure ldw45 will be bringing his...Not sure who else is bringing a boat but should have plenty for everyone to get in one who wants to fish in a boat...
Also thank you for putting up the info on the reservations for the camping area at Sandusky...I also misunderstood...I thought they where closed also after talking to Rend Lake Marina...That is good news they are open that weekend should be a fun one for everyone...I am so looking forward to seeing everyone...

Folks we are looking forward to this event Brian Hupp,Aaron Lands,Tkeyhunter,Tonto and myself have been working on getting door prizes for the event and looking really nice so far...Plus the IDNR is getting us a nice little hand out bag to give away while they last...I am also working on getting a Catfish Siminar put together for this event if everything works out with his work schedule...
I am really looking forward to this event...Brian has been working really hard on helping put this Gathering together this year...
We are going to have a wonderful feast for the Dinner...Hoping everyone can bring a dish...I will supply the Fish and chicken strips...I will also supply the Drinks for the Dinner...My kids are working on getting the nice colorings they did for the tables together like they did last year...
I hope Tonto can put his magical fish recipe together again this year and help us with the fish/chicken fry...He did an awesome job last year and we Thank Him very much for doing it...
I would like to see about getting a nice rod and reel to have as a Raffle...
what do all of you think about this...Would all of you be interested in a Raffle...I will only sell enough ticket to pay for the rod and reel...If this is something everyone agrees upon I will purchase a M/H UglyStick Catfish Rod with a ABU Reel of my choice to fit the Rod with and a Nice Line to set it up...
Estimated cost of $150.00
Please let me know what kind of interest you have in the chance to win a rod and reel, line combo for a very small cost...No profit will be made from this...This is for the gathering members in attendance only...
I will have Raffle tickets set at $1.00 per 1 or $5.00 per 6 until the price of the Rod and reel are met and no tickets will be sold after this... If enough people are interested...
