Cut bait or Creek Chubs is your best bet ....

they dont act like the channels in the river ... by this i mean
the channels in a river normally feed at night .... channels in
a farm pond feed anytime .... I have caught 2 this summer
one 26 inches and 9 lbs on a medium shiner fishing from the bottom
the other a 25 inch 6.1 lb on a creek chub fishing from the bottom

The owner of the one pond told me that if you wanna catch them cats use
cut bait ... so i bet this would work just as well

Can't beat a big juicy nightcrawler. That is all I ever use for farm/private pond cats.

Yeah I have had luck on A worm on a hook with no bobber. I usually catch thme in the deepest part of the pond, but the ponds that I fish only get to about 10-14 feet.

i fish alot in a very small pond.. maybe 1 or 2 acres.... i have tried everything out there for bait .. but what i always catch them on in this pond is weiners!! they love them... i might catch one every once in a while on something else but i will always catch them on weiners.. i use the ones from walmart calle jumbo wieners.. come in a huge pack and are very big... they work very well for me!! i use them with a #4 kahle hook!! cats love them!! good luck to you!

ya. here nightcrawlers and livers work well in ponds and cut bait too. we like some of the others that posted creek chubs work well. i put a pinch of minced garlic in the livers. smell is trippled. i caught 13 2-3# channels on garlic tysons at a 5 acre pond last year. if i could fig out the new pic thing ide post a pic. lmao.

p.s. try a 5/0 circle with livers. i had good luck with a gamakatzu hook last year. even got hits and brought in bait still on hook. the reason i say this is if its 100% release trebles are not a wise choice.
