Deer Stand placement

When selecting a place for your Deer Stand heres a few helpful tips to help you in your quest for that Big Deer ...

Once you have scouted an area to find where the Deer will feed in a open field , or a field of corn ..... Place your Stand in the hedgerow next to the food source .... camoflaugeing it with tree branches or tall grass will help hide you from view of the Deer ... make sure that you only hunt in the Stand when the wind direction is blowing from the woods to the field ... as the Deer will pick up your scent if its blowing from field to woods ... Place the stand so you can have a view of the field BUT more importanly a view of the Deer trails leading to the food source .... the Big mature Bucks scout the Does from afar ... they dont rush right in right away ... chances are you will see these mature Bucks on the edges of the woods moseying on down to the field at their pace .... the hedgerow stand makes for an ideal ambush point if set up properly ... till next time Happy Hunting

Great post bullhead be mindful of where the sun will rise and set as well if the deer hears you and looks up and the sun is behind you they will not be able to see you as well.

I would like to add that if you are using a climber it is better to pick a tree that will allow for some cover in the front as well as the back. In other words a trick my brother in law showed me is to get a tree with another tree straight in the direction that you think the deer will come from. This allows for some extra movement for you will still keeping you concealed. Also try and pick a tree that you can get into the fork of the tree this works for the same reason if the deer looks up its easier to blend into a fork in the tree than just the trunk. Also make sure you are not silhouetted against the sky if they look up from the ground.

That would be the draw back to having the sun behind you. Personally I like the sun behind me but that has never happened to me actually Ive never heard of that before but that does make sense. I have never given much thought to shadows but now I will thanks for that tip. I think its because I hunt in the woods way more than close to fields I could see that happening on the edge of a field...... Great post gives me something else to worry about now bait fish thanks alot.....LOL
