Default Welcome to the outboard advice area

Just to let you all know, I don't know it all. I can and will try to give you all the benefit of what I've learned and experienced through my work as a marine tech.

I do appreciate any and all constructive advice concerning members issues with their outboards, as I'm sure the members do also.

Giving complete details helps tremendously. Engine make, model, horse power, and details, as close as you can describe, of your problem.

    Thank You,

    Bob

I have a question. I have a 1965 65hp Mercury with out tilt/trim. Would I be able to add tilt/trim to it now? I mean, would I have to try to find some OE equipment or would I be able to use some of the newer aftermarket stuff? Thanks in advance for your time.

I'd suggest you try the after market T&T units. They are easier to install and cheaper. Did I say they're much easier to install?

I have a 15 h.p. Evinrude and it's not getting fire to the plugs. What could be a possible problem? I've checked the Kill Switch but couldn't tell much.

Thomas, you might want to post a little more info on your motor. That way Bob could help ya out easier when he sees post.
I did the same thing only worse when asking a question the first time.

Thomas, Try to find the kill switch wire and disconnect it near the power pack. Then try it. If you've still got no spark to either plug, then it could possibly be the power pack.

I know you've got a later model engine, but for others that might read this, please give your year.

    How's the new job going?

BobPaul, I have an evinrude 15hp in the 70s. While out today it started bogging down and then stopped. after a bit it restarted and ran fine for a bit and did it again. It has fresh gas, New Carb, new Fuel pump. Havent checked the plugs, but i did notice one of the Coils has a crack in it. Is this what is causing my trouble? Thanks Paul

Was your gas tank vent open fully?

As far as ignition problems go, you could be having one also. You need to find out if your losing spark. Try duplicating the problem at the dock, then check for spark at the plugs.
