Left over dead minnow/shad home made punch bait. A fish a game officer showed me as a kid how to make it.I was around 10 or so,after the end of his day he came over to fish with my father and I cause he wanted a couple eaters. He sat by us with one pole and canned food can with no label.Took him about 20 min and he was done,so that was how I found out.

I have had my best luck with bluegills cut and live. When Im fishing small creeks I like to use crawdads, crayfish, especially if there are smallmouth bass present.

At this time of the fishing season ("Nov. thru March") it's "Shad & Cut Bait" all the way for me / But from ("April thru Oct.") its "StinkBait".
That has been working for me for as long as I remember. :0a23:
"If it ain't broke - then why are you trying to fix it"?

shrimp is my #1 bait. The cut shag I just started using last year and it works real good. If you know any butchers and want some free bait try beef spleen it smells NASTY after a couple of days my dad caught a 12 lb channel with it the first time we tried it within 5 minutes. However that success didn't continue cuz we never caught 1 that big the rest of the year but did catch many 6 to 10 pounders but my choice is SHRIMP.

Catfish bait
When water is on rise and flowing very hard Sonny's regular formula made in Iowa as well as shad gizzards work well. Nightcrawlers are particularly good in early spring and at night. Small shad (under 4 inches)work well on bottom and bluegill or grasshoppers at weedline in summer.

The first thing I put on my hook of first rod out is cut bream, and the others are nightcrawlers, shad , or shrimp
