I prefer shad, the punch baits and chicken liver in close second.

I love those little Kitties on light line (6 to 10 lb) under slip bobbers and for numbers you just can’t beat the punch bait. You occasionally get a wonderful surprise and a big bruiser grabs it. I lose a few biguns on the light line but the fights are memorable and the big guys aren’t the best eating and would be released anyway.
you are right on with the light line fishing and the fun it brings

of all the times i used Premo i caught a bunch of 1,2,3, lbers but never expected to get a 5 lber. and then I hear about guys catching 7/8/10 lbers too...

    i did a test with:
    liver
    stink bait
    anchovie heads
    anchovie bodies
    shad heads
and shad sides but premo was the only thing that worked

i got one nibble on the liver but i think it was a striper

where's the carp at??? that's my go to bait for channels, but i do use shad quite a bit. i get as many cats on carp as i do shad, but carp withstand the manhandling of repeated long casts.

Default Go to bait for channel cats

I have used nightcrawlers & Liver and has always had the best of luck. I've tried some of the other baits and none of them keep up with the basics.

I love the bluegills! They are great for a wide range of different sized cats. They stay on the hook well when you have the nibblers.

You can not beat threadin shad though, but one hit and they are gone! :sad2:

I am a DK user. I like DK because it is quick and always handy. It works all the time. I like using live shad and perch too. That is whats good about fishing for cats.,There are so many types of bait to use. The best part is just being outdoors on the lake. Better than working any time.
