One thing I didnt see that I discovered on my local waters, thanks to my 4 yr old daughter is Clam. When I take my daughter panfishing, when the bite is slow she collects all the spent freshwater clam shells she sees. Got me thinking, theres no bore holes like you see in saltwater clams on the beach. So what killed off all these little clams>>>? Big ole Channel cats. Thats who. So I took a half dozen cherrystones from the sea food dept. and Bam! first channel was a Bruiser on a circle hook with clam. Then several other eaters & a bullhead. Had me wishin I'd had bought more clams. They ignored my liver while I was fish with clam that day. Cant wait to try again.

My favorite bait is store bought shrimp, but I rarely ever use bait for them anymore, its a myth that you can't catch them with lures, I catch a lot of catfish with lures in the upper chesapeake, I've caught them on spinnerbaits, sassy shads, bassassasins, you name it, My favorite is a jigging type spoon like a sting silver, if you put a gulp bait on the hook as a trailer you'll catch them one after another if your in the right spot. the best thing about lures is that usually they will be larger, I think the larger catfish add live fish to their diet

I have best results with liver but I have used cut bream, cut eel, stink bait, shrimp and various other concoctions.

For Channels I like to go with:
Cut Baits
"Shad or Bluegills"
or
I would just go with "Stink Baits".
"If it ain't broke - then why are you trying to fix it"?
(Think about it)
