I have noticed a difference between straight out of the package to cureing. I guess it could be the garlic salt helping out. Also it stays on twice as long.

Will be drying some this weekend. Anyone else ever try cayanne pepper as a additional seasoning?

I cure the liver with garlic and salt. It works great for were I fish and has upped my catch rate by over 50%.

Shane, as soon as you use the word ALWAYS when referring to fish, fishing, or success with a bait, you're wrong. Curing chicken liver seems to work at least as well, if not better than fresh liver most of the time, but I've seen times when the cats wouldn't touch it. I've also seen times when the cats preferred fresh liver to cured, and times when they wouldn't touch it. IMO, though, both are backup baits, to be used when you can't get fresh shad or skipjack, or when the cats won't hit that. Since fresh liver needs to be fresh, it doesn't make sense to buy liver for a trip when I probably won't even give it a try; cured liver can be taken out on a trip, not used, and returned to the fridge when you get back home. Over and over.

    Default Cured Liver

Either way, it quickly absorbs water and softens up when you put it in the water.
How would you fellas say liver compares to worms, shrimp or cut bait(mooneyes/goldeyes)?
