I've got a Coleman two burner, coleman fuel, that I've used for years both cooking and melting lead. Still works good.

For those of you that said the little propane bottles get exspensive your right but if you spend 15 dollars you can get an adapter to refill them from a 20# tank thats what I do you can fill about 20 of those little tanks from a 20#er and there a lot less heavy too carry around harbor freight sell's the adapter its well worth the money IMO.

Thanks for the all insight on camping stoves. I been thumbing thru the Cabelas magezine and yes, thay can get pricey. I think that the Coleman is the way to go. But Coleman kinda leads the way in camping assecories and all dont they?

I have a love/hate thing goin' on with camp stoves.

I love to camp, and love my stoves.

I HATE the cheap-*** valves they come with. Why can't someone put an appliance grade valve on a campstove, so that when you throttle it back, you can't turn it off?:confused2: :angry:

I have a two burner Coleman stove and a Brinkmann Fire & Ice grill/griddle combo that i take camping with me. Both run off of the little propane bottles. I can usually cook about 6 meals for the entire family on one bottle of propane. Let me tell ya they came in handy this winter during the ice storm. We were the only ones in the neighborhood with hot food in our bellies. Heck i even have a drip coffee maker for the Coleman stove that I have no idea where it came from but it sure works great.

I have a 2 burner, I bought in 1975.......It has been painted a number of times, new burner inserts a few times, and a couple of other small cost items. It has paid for it's self many times over. Of course, over that time, I have burned the hair off my hand a few times.

I also have at least 1 of the laterns I got at the same time.

We do alot of cooking in the old dutch ovens, anything you can make in the oven you can make in these things

With 60 years of perspective there is one thing I would like to comment on.I have used them all, gas and propane from 3 burner Colemans to the light weight back packers.There are some things that stick with a person for all their lives.For instance I believe I will always recognize the sound of a HUEY helicopter simply from having been around them in peace and war, all my military career.One of the other things is the "Sound" of a Coleman stove or lantern.From my earliest memories of lazy fishing nights with my dad to my most recent trek to the Colo mountains for Elk,the sound of the lanterns and stoves is like background music from a symphony orchestra.That "roar" can conjure up images from the past like a time machine,like the night the rattlesnake got in our boat at Lake Travis in Texas, or the wonderful sound of someone other than you starting the lantern and firing up the stove 12,000 ft in the Colo mountains during elk camp, while you remain snug in your sleeping bag.Now that is a true friend,one that will get up and get the coffee and bacon going when its minus 30.I think I could relive most of my lifes really fun adventures everytime some one fires up one of those Colemans.Its like meeting one of your best and life long friends again after not seeing them for awhile.Somehow to me, despite all the recent inovations in LEDS and lighting it just aint fishing without a Coleman lantern going at night. I know when I cant go anymore and I'm confined to my rocking chair all I'll have to do is get one of my grandchildren to fire up a lantern and we will be right back to the night that a 52 and a 47 lb blue hit on rods at opposite ends of the boat with just me aboard.:ooooh: :smile2:

Pez, I've got one of those adapters, but I haven't actually used it yet, so I'll hit you with a couple of questions. Is it as simple as it sounds? I've heard some people say that the bottles don't fill up as much as when they were new; if that's so, how much would you say refills into a 16oz bottle? How much difference does the temperature of the big bottle make when refilling?

i can answer questions on refilling small bottles as that is what i do. they fill about 3/4 of original. also, before filling, i put the small empties in freezer for awhile and they fill better. be sure to check that valve seals after filling. sometimes they don't. and i usually get 3-6 refills on each one.
another thing is most states it's illigal to transport the refilled ones, so don't mark them as refills.
also, on the screw threads, they bend easy, so save the plastic caps and keep them on them unless using the bottles.
