    Default Asian silver carp

Did some fishing on the lower hocking Friday and came across quite a few Asian silver carp.. We were running a trolling motor and they were jumping several feet out of the water right beside the boat. Last I heard they had just confirmed they were in the cinnci pool on the Ohio but it seems they're moving up fast if they're already up the hocking. Haven't done much research on the impact they have on fisheries but I figure it's not good.

    Default NOT GOOD

Wow that is not good.. I'm guessing in the smaller waters of the hocking they are more noticable than in the Ohio, just a guess. But means they have been in the Ohio for a while if they are making it up river like that..
The Ohio is probably already a lost cause. Sad days.
My gut feeling on the impact they will have is they might be a benefit for catfish as a forage base, and will directly compete with shad possibly reducing their #s. The problem really is they compete with gamefish fry for the food fry need at a small size. But I am just tossing guesses out..
At least I hear they make good bait and getting some shouldn't be too hard if the videos I have seen are at all typical, they just jump right in the boat!!

Eat them and use them for bait. Everything I have read on here says they taste like a panfish.

I just watched a show called Monster Fish on National Geo Wild about them in the Mississippi and Illinois rivers. It's amazing how fast they can grow and if conditions are right will spawn 4 times a year. Very good show if you can catch a rerun of it.

A big asian carp fillet is my favorite bait for big blues.

They just showed up her in SD about a year or two came up with high water. They are all about the same size here not many small ones. There about 5lbs about 25 to 30 in. Threw a 8ft cast net the other night and got 12 of them with just one cast of the bridge. I think they are going to become a problem real fast here. I would like to punch the guy who brought them over right in the mouth.
Kids who hunt fish and trap dont mug little old ladies!

Yeah that's not a good thing for other gamefish, but on the bright side, easy to get bait and plenty of it.
