adding tell tale to force /crysler outboards
Well this will work on any outboard with a pipe plug in the head. Many older force/crysler outboards didnt have the tell tale (pisser) on them thats visible from the drivers seat like most outboards today. The vent over flow water/exaust ports are on the lower leg facing out the stern. So in order to check the person must hang out the back or turn the motor to inspect for water flow.

Heres a cheap, fast, and easy way to rig one on your engine. Check the head on top where the thermostat is and look for a hole plugged with a pipe plug. like shown here and remove it.

They can be frozen in so a lil wd 40 or some heat from a small torch may help. I heated mine with a butane hand torch for 30 seconds and removed without the help of the pliers. Take the plug and go to the farm or hardware store where plumbing stuff is sold. You want to go to the brass section. Find out on the testers most have what size threads you have. In my case 1/8" pipe. Get a brass 90 degree elbow with the threads you need on one end and a 1/4" hosebarb on other. If you cant find that get a threads on both ends elbow and find a 1/4" hose barb that has the matching threads. Then you want to thread in into head like this. Keep it on the drivers side away from electrical parts and so you can see while driving.

These can be done in many ways. You can also use a compression fitting at the elbow and use brass tubing but it will be more expensive. Also after you have decided on the hose you need a fitting to secure it to lower cowl. I got the same 90 deg threaded hose barb and also a 1/4" straight hose barb with 1/8" threads and some neopreme washers to seal it.

Drill a hole back away from any moving shifter linkages in the LOWER cowl. I started with a small bit and increased a few times till the threads of the 90 deg elbow went through. I also placed a neopreme washer inside and out to keep out water.

Then screw and tighten the straight hose barb to inside to snug it with the outside elbow facing up and slightly back.

Then simply add a 1/4" heater/fuel hose auto hose to the two barbs and secure with a hose clamp. Save your origional plug. In the event you need to remove the pisser later. Outboards are designed to pump more water than the engine needs and this small stream should not cause any problems with overheating.

Total time invested. 15 min and a trip to the store. Cost $10.
