They are like fresh water sharks, you never know what your going to find in a flathead. Cool picture.

I 've heard a lot of older fishermen talk about using small yellowcats for bait.. My wife's granddad done it all the time.. 1/2 lber. was a baitfish for him..

He would cut fins off so has to make it crippled, and more often that not caught a big flathead that way..

I can't do it.LOL That's too good eating for me.. Besides my wife would probably shoot me because she had rather eat one that size... Likes them better

than a fillet... And I have to agree that some of the time it's just good eatin to strip some meat off the bone, seems it got better flavor..

Also several years ago (over 30) while trotlining, we came across a 6 to 8 lb. bluecat that was stripped up to his fins.. No doubt it was a bigger catfish by the way it

had the flesh gone.. I know there's some big boys in the lake, but never had the good fortune to get one in the boat..

I have landed teenage flatheads and they were not even hooked. The just refuse to let go of the bait.

Ive heard of people fishing for flats and getting small nibbles then when they went to reel it in it was a big old flat. when they got it home they found that a smaller flat had taken the bait then the larger flat they caught had taken the smaller one. Seems they like to eat flathead as much as the rest of us
