White River In White County
Anyone had any luck in this area? This year the river seems dead. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this or if it is just my luck.

It's a lot slower than it was last year at this time, but last year it was still at flood stage. I been catchin a few, but not nearly like i was last year.

Yea we fished most of the night last night and only caught 2 small channels. Friends of mine ran trotlines 3 weeks in a row and only caught 2 cats although one was a 45lb flathead.

I fished that stretch of river, especially down around Augusta/Taylor bay....but that was back in the 80's when I was in college. I do know back then, there had to be current for Taylor bay to be worth anything.
I would say your fishing success has been affected by the lack of current. It is taking a toll on a lot of people all over the state. A few good rains here and up Kansas will help the Ark river and other rivers in the state. Just keep at it and you will find the biting fish. Current or no current, they do have to feed. Fish are like humans. We picnic outside when the weather is nice, but move indoors when it gets hot............so fish will feed when there is current, but they will have to eat somewhere when there isn't current.
If you have a good sonar, or know that stretch of river, find a channel bend or somewhere with big rocks/structure. There will be current present even though you can't see it on the surface. Have you ever fished when there is no visible current, but found your lines seem to move downstream??? Unless the dams on a river are totally stopping the river, there is always water moving downstream.
Good luck and keep us posted. I will watch this post closely, as I really miss those days of fishing down there.

Any one else fish the white river, around the Devalls bluff area of Ar. I dont hear too much about that river, thinking about checking that river out some time soon. Ive never been there But its only about 60 miles away. Any one fish that part of the river and how is it for cat fishing. Would think its a bit colder river than the Arkansas river.

I haven't fished around DeValls Bluff but on down around Claredon catfishing is pretty good for eaters.

how deep is that river, can you fish from the bank or a pontoon boat. I was going to make a trip there without my boat first just to check it out and was going to try from the bank, should i take bait with me or can i get some shad there with a throw net.

There is always current on the White River. I have been on it twice this summer and have been skunked both times using cut bait and stink bait. I fished the same holes where I always catch fish. I too have a friend that has caught some nice fish trotlining this summer above the Georgetown landing. The only time I have been able to get bait close by was in the old river bed below the Georgetown landing and in the Little Red River above its mouth into the White River.

You can get Gold fish and Bull heads across the old river bridge at the fish farm, or take a cast net and hit the ditches and catch some. We also popped a few gar with a bow the other night. couldnt get close enough to pop one of the asian carp, bet they would make pretty good bait.
