record chasers..
Well, we've done discussed overkill tackle, there's a thread on the best flathead waters out there, now I reckon we can discuss if there's anybody that chases the record class flathead!
Whether it be a state record, the world record, or whatever else.. who's out there going after it with at least one pole everynight?
Due to maybe at some point in time you've hooked a fish big enough to be the record in this little honey hole, or you just simply know that its there..
Stories and pictures are awesome, let's hear it!

theres plenty here that do just that. i havent been to the river yet this year. i will be trying to catch a PB lfathead this year for sure. in the spring i hit the lake here to get some channels in the freezor. got that accomplished already so a trip to the river will be soon. its an hour away so i do far more channel fishing that chasing flats. there is flats in the lake, just aint figured them out yet.
but actually im a recreational fisherman. i enjoy catching a mess of pan sized bluegill to fry up as much as anything else. catching fish is fun to me reguardless of the size. but sure i do want to get a monster about as bad as the next guy.

I have come within 6lbs of a record in one of the states i fish for flatheads.I know for a fact record fish swim in these waters ,but i don't focus on record or trophys. If you fish hard and make good decisions memorable fish will come.Mostly my focus is to break my current PB every time i am after flatheads.

Our state record is 97# & its stood for well over 50 years now which is shocking considering I know there are fish in the ohio larger, & I predict the south fork of the licking to be the sleeper pick as the next home of the record.

Part of the river I fish is considered Westpoint lake. When I first started fishing there I did'nt realize this, and I have caught and released numerous fish that would set the new record.I've seen fish that a friend has caught that would just blow the record away(unfortunantly they all died,or he killed them). My problem with catching this lake record is,that in order to get it verified it would probably die,so,If/when I catch another that will beat it,I still won't hold the record, cause I'm not killin' the fish,Period.

North Carolina record was caught and released. I fish for the record only as a personal goal. My Great Grandad has Wv state record and I think it would be great for one family to have two states. I have a 84 gallon bait tank at home that will be used to keep it alive until I get it weighed when I catch it. Not if but when! Not being arogent just try to think positive. Truth is I may never beat my PB of 23, but don't tell the little voices in my head!!

Always gotta think positive! My PB is 36.6# @ this current time but living as close as I do to prime flatty waters... I'm going to bust 50 this calendar year. I'm going to fish as hard as a man with a suspended drivers license can fish, haha

I have a buddy that is 27 with no licenses at all. When he wants to fish, he calls my wife or me up and we drop him off at the river or lake then pick him up the next day. Sometimes I go, sometimes I don't. He's the kinda guy that you go fish 100 ft away from to keep him from talking you to death lol

12lbs shy of our 66lb state record flathead, hooking them is one thing landing is another.Since the world record blue came out of the lake here, interest in breaking the flathead record is growing.
Since the fiasco of the mishandling of the blue things have gotten ALOT better as far as who to contact for any species of fish thats a potential record and to have it handled properly. Thats KEY to any fish.

I get pretty excited and pumped about my next trip on the river when I hear the stories about the "one" that got away. No doubt if I ever get one hooked that size I'm going to do everything in my power to get em in my net. Even if Ichose not to register a fish for being a record... it would still be a personal best for me & an all around awesome experience for a big time rod & reel angler like myself, who doesn't have the luxury of sponsors & so forth like many of the boat tournament anglers do. Just imagine that fishing going to the basic bank fisherman, that would be something special!
