Default Anyone ever heard or fished in the Banister River in Halifax?

The Banister River is about 9 miles long and flows into the Dan River and it may be 12-15 feet at the very deepest but usually is only about 2-6. Ive caught some really nice flats and blues ranging up to 40+ pounds and was just wondering how many people have heard and/fished it and if they had any luck?

I used to drive over it all the time on the way to my grandparents' house back in the day. Forgot the road, but isn't there a dam right off the main road? I think that was the Banister.

Yup thats the one, From the dam and lower down the river is where the big fish are because Ive never heard of anybody catching anything over about 15 or 20 pounds in what we call the lake part of the baniter. They swim up from the Dan and cant get any higher because of rocks and the dam

I've caught a few good ones in there. There's also alot of good stuff to mess your boat up on if you're not careful. Pretty good crappie fishing above the dam also.

The same father and son that won the showdown with the 47.5 Flat!! They also weighed two Flats at the Cat Challenge Tourney in March. They caught it in the daytime...on a bream head... seen 3 different pics of the fish... it was a beast for sure!!! They said 63# on some crappy scales...judging by the pics I would have had to have it weighed on a certified scale... 6 foot of water....it was caught the week before the King Kat tourney! Best of all....the fish was released unharmed!

ok, I think I know who it is. Cant beat those daytime flatheads. Glad that released it for another day. I think you coulda spit a sunflower seed on em from where you were at the Showdown Jamie if it's who I think.
