Mtn Island 4-6-12/4-8-12
4/6/2012 Me, my father in law, and my brother in law fished Mtn Island Sat night from about 9pm til around 12:30am ended up catching 8 flatties and 2 blues. Water temp was from 61 to 63 degrees. The blues came off bream heads and the flats were caught on live/cut bream in water from 3ft to around 15ft. I would have liked to have been able to tell yall how much they weighed but somebody didnt bring new batterys for the scales sucks but none of the fish were to big biggest flat was probly around 9 or 10lbs and the blue I caught was probly around 17 or 18lbs im guessing but all in all it was a good night had some good runs that just stopped but enough to keep your blood warm was pretty cool with a clear sky.
4/8/2012 Me and my buddy fished Mtn Island again last night I dont know what changed last night but night the bite wasnt that good for us ended up with 1 flat 12lbs, 1 small channel and a broken rod and a glimpse of what would have been the biggest flat I have ever had on the end of my rod. Long story short was using a new rod my brother in law had bought, I wanted to try out he bought 2 of them off ebay for $30 that says it all to. Oh they looked good med/hey action 15-30lbs 7' 6'' rod. I had stripped my reel Abu 7000ic3 of the 65lb power pro that evening on the boat and had spooled it with 30lb Ande line. That was my mistake that caused me to loose the fish. The fish hit a large bream in about 6' of water beside some old blown down tree tops, fought him all the way to the boat, when got him up to the boat my buddy hit him with a light he dove straight down breaking the cheap P.O.S rod he had let me try out my drag was set right he was pulling drag but when I tried to pull him up to get him in the ready for the net the rod snapped of right in the back bone of the rod then somehow the line got tangled up on the end I had around the eye where it had broke then had no drag for him to pull at all and that 30lb line didnt have enough ass for us to get his head in the net an that was it ended bitter sweet night. But ill be back fish had to have been between 45 and 55lbs. Wanted to take reel of and throw that cheap shit in the lake but im against anyone throwing trash in lake but it did end up in the trash can and is now waiting on the trashman coming in the morning LOL.

Sounds. Like a few good nights. Hate to hear about the broken rod and lost fish. What was the brand of rod? Friend of mine got a few new cheap ones and had one snap at the top of the reel seat. Wondering if it's the same brand.
