    Default McAlpine

I spoke to someone last night that said there was decent bank access there. Anyone ever fish there from shore and if so is there operating hours for the bank access (does it close at dusk like a lot of places), and if so how do I get down there? Any information would be great.

I sat at the mouth of the Salt river all night and nothing. One good hit, but either way we had a great time and a beautiful night. Probably head down again in a few days. I relly want to find out about McAlpine from shore though before I make the drive. Luckily some guys on a boat were nice enough to scout a hole for us suckers stuck on the bank so now I know where there is a 12,20,and 40 foot hole from shore at the Salt.

Personally, McAlpine isn't worth it unless you have a boat. I have fished from the bank many times there. Easy access, closes at 10 or 11 pm but people usually stay later. If you go, plan on losing A LOT of tackle. It's all rock and tons of hang-ups. I've only caught small channels and gar there. Heard of people catching decent size blues (30-40 lbs), but that's rare from what I hear. Neat place to see and fish, but not worth it.

To each their own, personally I love it down there all the fish you see in my albums where im not on my boat came from the banks behind the hydro plant / McAlpine Get off 22nd st exit from I-64 and at bottom of ramp take immediate right thats northwestern pkwy go down to about 24th or 26th street and you will see sign shaped like a shield white with black and red lettering says McAlpine locks and dam turn there and if you go to the left through the flood wall over the railroad tracks then to the left you will see the gates to the bridge that takes you across the locks drive all the way over and down to your left parking lot and sign says fishermans walk down the steps to the river if you go to the far right you will run smack dead into the hydroelectric plant.

Seen several hawgs come out of there. Gates open at 8 and close at like 8 during summer but if your in before they close than when you leave just stop at the gate and they will see you on camera and let you out you dont have to do anything but just pull up to the exit gate and wait for it to raise spent many a all nighter down there with bonfire on the bank and left the next morn.

Last time I was there a few months ago saw a HUGE flock of wild turkeys, and last year saw several deer at about 6:30 am after pulling an all nighter woke my son up out of his chair to show him, pretty neat

    Will do.

Havn't had any luck with the skips in there yet, went to ky dam last weekend and loaded up on them, but they should be in there before long.

Guess I'll have to learn to fish skip jack and load up. I didn't think I was going to be able to because of work. I missed out last year.

You should try asian carp as bait too. I like McAlpine on bank and in a boat. If you need skips I have plenty and live close to you in etown so I can hook you up.
