Default Adding a new rod to my collection-need advice

I am in need of a second catfishing rod and am looking to see what others are using. I'd like to say that money is no object, but these days, well, you know how it is.
I will be fishing the Platte and Loup and am targeting flatties. I will mate a Penn 309 to what ever rod I get.

So let's hear your ideas and recommendations for a tough, budget friendly kitty rod.

Depends, man. Are you fishing from a boat or bank? I use 12' daiwa beefsticks, but I do a lot of lake bankfishing so I need a long cast. For rivers, a shorter stiff rod will probably suit you better.
Also, you're pairing a baitcast reel. Cheap baitcasting rods can sometimes be harder to find than spincast.

There's one that comes to mind first that I think might fit what you're looking for... Berkeley Big Game. 7' or 8'. Walmart for $20-$30 bucks. I've seen them on clearance for less. Don't let the price fool you, they're decent rods.

Thanks, I'll check them out. I have wondered about those rods.

Almost all of my fishing will be bank fishing.

The Zebco fighter rods from Renegade are pretty good for the money. You might also consider Eagle Claw rods if you want something under $75.

I like the cabelas king kat rods for $30. When they go on sale you can get them for $20. For a low budget rod they are hard to beat.
Also, its an all white rod and easy to see at night with very little light.

Also try out the local pawn shop/s, you can sometimes find quality gear on the cheap.

I would like to add to check out the Berkley CATMAXX rods also. I own one and love it. Bought it at a local Bass Pro Shops outlet store for $35 or so. Maybe give the Uglystick some consideration also. Just opt for a more heavy duty Uglystick for your Flathead Catfish requirements! GOOD FISHING BRO!

I went to the local pawn shop today and found, what I hope is, a great deal. They had a 8 ft Cabela's King Kat rod mated to an ALMOST new Penn 309, spooled up and ready to go. I paid $70 for the whole outfit.
Not real fond of two piece rods, but it will do until I can find a good sale on something else.
