Jerald and me thought we'd shore fish and catch some Channelcats. Bait was two different home made dip baits, and two different punch baits. Catfish were caught, no Channels, all were eater size Bluecats, about 3 to 5 feet of stained water, not quite muddy.

That's solid advice. There were several days last year I threw the net for up to three hours with no shad to show for it throwing 6' nets. This year I went to a 10' 1.5#/foot net and I always catch bait. The little nets sink too slow and don't cover enough water.
Joking or not, Tom hit it right on the head.

The 10 ft net makes a huge difference when shad are not right on the bank like now. Last year Josh was throwing a 6 ft on my boat while I threw my 10 ft. The big net caught all the bait. I was out with him a couple days ago on his boat. He threw his new 10 ft net and I threw the 6 footer. He caught all the bait. It doesn't sound like much, but it is an extra 8ft on the diameter and it makes a big difference. When you are dealing with a circle, every time you double the diameter, you increase the area by approx 4 times. Look for the big shad off of rocky shore lines in 15-25 foot of water right now. Little shad are in the coves, especially at night.

thanks a million guys, im throwing a 7ft right now, but if you guys are having such success with the bigger nets then i think i know what i have to do. thanks again for the info. another quick question? are you guys ordering your nets online or in the local stores? and how much are they over charging for them lol

I ordered my 10 footer online. It is a Fitec GS1500 Ultra. Cost me right at $100 to my door.

Screwed around on shore yesterday for a couple hours. Caught 5 blues, biggest was about 7 pounds, one big channel, two smallmouth, and a goldeye which is now in the freezer.
Lost a 6 foot shad net though,
I was having a good day up until then.
Watched a couple crappie guys hook into about a 5 pound flathead that gave them a hell of a fight on that light gear. He thought he had the world record crappie for a minute.

Fished the wakefield and timber creek areas yesterday morning. Bite was pretty slow. caught 5 blues from 4.5 - 6 pounds. Using cut bluegills for bait. The fish were caught from 4 ft. to 17 ft.
