Actually Friendship Park was South of the Bridge where the Casino is currently located it no longer exists. Years ago I did catch some pretty good fish at times off those dikes especially the ones south of the railroad bridge from shore.

    Papabear,

I live in portsmouth and I have been fishing the little sioux since I was a kid. I recently moved back and I am also going to attempt the big MO here shortly. I scouted a few place south of I-80 near Bellveue that have decent access.

Default Anchoring to fish wing dams

So everywhere I look it seems that everyone fishes wing dams. But either im not smart enough to figure out how to fish them or im doing something wrong. I have a boat and am just curious how others do it do you anchor out in the current or tie to the bank or what? Next question is do you fish in front of the wing dam behind it or what? I guess im having issues with how to anchor above it and fish below it and not lose my gear every five seconds? Thanks for any help.

I would agree with everyone above, from my experience on the river we have had way more luck from the bank on the iowa side. We fish up by south sioux city, and the nebraska side is small bluffs and the channel, while it seems like every wing dike on the river is on the Iowa side . On the Nebraska side we have had the most luck finding a point on the river where after the bait has been cast it will drift into deeper water and not right back onto the bank next to you. Also , one thing that I have learned from my grandpa that is important to keep in mind when fishing the river is that you will get a TON of snags in it, when you do , rather then fighting the snag, let line out and your weight ( unless a no-roll sinker) will drift back down with the current and you will be unsnagged. Hope this helps.

if your anchored in the middle of the dike how ya gonna fish the seams??? JK...
before you anchor you should anchor just down from it and fish, ive caught lots of cats right against the back, thats if ya dont alredy. if you do that first you'll spooke any that are there...
